Beau Monde celebrates 1 year Food Bites By Thom Cardwell Beau Monde, 624 S. Sixth St., celebrates its first anniversary this month. During its first year of operation the popular creperie has gained both local and national praise from The Philadelphia Inquirer's Sunday Magazine, Bon Appetit, and Travel and Leisure. Owners Jim Caiola and David Salama said they're delighted with the response to their crepe restaurant. Caiola and Salama conceived and designed Beau Monde -(French for "beautiful world") themselves. Personal touches to the decor, such as the gold-leaf ,botanical panels hand-painted by Salama, are evident throughout the 65-seat dining room. Large glass-paneled mahogany doors open onto the street, and invite passersby to peek into, the lively French bistro.
The extensive menu offers a variety of savory and sweet crepes, including coq au vin with Swiss cheeses and herb butter, smoked trout with leeks and creme fraiche, chocolate and Grand Marnier, and apples with toasted almonds, brown sugar, caramel and vanilla ice cream. Most crepes are priced at under $12. For more information, call (215) 592-0656. Caiola and Salama conceived and designed Beau Monde (French for "beautiful world") themselves.
